Primary Focus Areas:

Rather than focusing on specific geographic areas of the City, the Blue Springs EDC is opportunistic, seeking immediate opportunties as they develop throughout the entire City.  The following are the current priorities:

• Existing Business Support - Striving for stability in difficult economic times
• New Business Development - Focus on opportunities emerging at the Missouri Innovation Park
• Business Environment - Improving or enhancing the existing community policies and systems
• Growth Visioning - Examining the potential for growth in Blue Springs
• Financial & Organizational Sustainability - Increasing investments in the Blue Springs EDC and enhancing organization effectiveness

In 2009, the Blue Springs Board of Directors created Task Forces to assist in this effort and to develop action plans to assure progress is made in these priority focus areas.

Notable Facts:

• In 2004, a joint planning group of city representatives and business leaders met to explore ways to maximize the effectiveness of our economic development efforts in Blue Springs.
• In June 2005, the EDC Board was established and supported by both the City Council and Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce.  The voluntary Board has grown to 13 members, representing the City, the Chamber of Commerce, the School District, Central Jackson County Fire Protection District, and the private sector.
• In November 2005, the EDC was incorporated as a 501(c)(6) non-profit corporation.
• In May 2006, the EDC held their first Annual Meeting.
• In January 2007, the EDC separated from the City and moved into their new facility at 1600 NE Coronado Drive.
• The EDC is funded through a public investment from the City and private funds from over 50 businesses and individuals.
