The City of Blue Springs just completed in the Spring of 2007 an extensive design
and development (D&D) visioning process that began unfolding in the summer of 2006
and involved residents, businesses and property owners of downtown Blue Springs,
in addition to elected officials, planning commissioners and city staff.
The result has been a D&D use guideline that is empowered by rezoning to allow for
appropriate development to support a revitalized downtown environment. One benefit
is a streamlined process to understand and approve permitted design and development
uses without the need for public hearings, except in the case of exceptions to the
development guideline. Interest is already underway with plans filed for building
improvements and development plans for properties located in the heart of downtown
Blue Springs.
